I got another call from Brad:
It's Brad, just calling with another update from Kenya. We are pretty much winding things down here. We hiked out from our high camp, our high base camp, this morning, we're now down at about 10,000 feet. We hiked through about 5 hours of torrential rain today. It was awful and we're just soaked still, but just had a great dinner and getting ready to get back to Nairobi over the next few days.
So when we last called we were just getting ready to start climbing, and we've had three days of fantastic climbing everyone in our group got in some great climbs. We did not make it to the top of Kenya due to really icy, snowy conditions on the rock but we climbed some great towers, some great spires and didn't get a go on Kenya.
So all in all so we did some wonderful climbing, everyone was doing really well, and we're feeling great about what we got done. So we'll be posting details soon, what we did and where we were and get some photos up soon. But right now, we're trying to dry off on the way back to Nairobi. We'll be posting some updates once we're back to civilization.

Brad called in with this message last night, October 6th. Sound quality is a little erratic due to satellite phone signal quality, but a good update on the expedition.

Leaving for Point Lanana
My apologies to those without audio capability... I will try to transcribe this soon.
This morning at 1am (Boulder time) Tonya sent this short update via email: "We are all on top of Point Lanana. Headed to the American camp now."

Good Morning Africa! We woke up refreshed and feeling great today, after arriving in Nairobi late last night. We have spent today touring this bustling city of over 3 million people, sorting last minute gear, getting fuel for stoves, eating some awesome pizza in the City Center, and of course relaxing by the hotel pool. All is great as our local logistics expert, Sammy, is nothing less than spectacular - and we are all ready to head out to the mountain in the morning. From here on out, we will update as often as possible given no problems with technology! More to follow from the slopes of Mt. Kenya....

Brad and Tonya have arrived in Africa after an early departure yesterday!
The communication that's available depends on the mountain and the technology you are carrying with you, and that is changing fast these days. It seems that we will be able to get brief messages and hopefully photos from the mountain via Tonya's phone. Here's a note from Tonya today from her Blackberry:
Val will be picked up at 3:45 this morning while the rest of us are sleeping. All bags are here. We have brought some soccer balls on behalf of Judy Pitt for an orphanage along with some medical supplies. We are so glad to be here. Sammy is telling us stories of climbing Ben Nevis.
